Common applications
Stilnox is a medication for the treatment of sleep-related disorders - for example, an inability to fall asleep, frequently waking up in the night, or waking up too early in the morning. The drug should only be used for short-term treatments, such as 7-10 days, and not for prolonged sessions, unless supervised by a doctor.
Precautions
The medicine should be taken exactly as you've been instructed by your doctor. Take it with one glass of water before going to sleep. Only take the medication if you're sure you're going to fall asleep soon - otherwise, as the medicine causes sleepiness, you risk injuring yourself if it starts acting in an inappropriate time.
Side effects
The medicine may cause an allergic reaction, so stop using it immediately if you notice any symptoms of one, which include difficulty breathing, swelling, redness and rashes. You may experience some more minor side effects, like headache, drowsiness, dizziness, or clumsiness;
Other side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or constipation; depression; muscle aches or pains; vivid or abnormal dreams; or amnesia - in that case, simply talk to your doctor but continue using the medication.
The medicine is known to form a habit. If you're using it for prolonged periods of time, you may find yourself unable to suddenly stop. If you feel a physical discomfort when trying to stop using the medication, try to gradually decrease your dosage until you no longer feel bothered by it.
Warnings
If you've had any liver-related problems, tell your doctor about them before using this medicine. If you're a woman in pregnancy, or currently breastfeeding, this medication will be most likely unsuitable for you and you should not use it.
Drug interactions
This medication may enhance the effects of other medicines which induce drowsiness, such as other sedatives and relaxants. Always inform your doctor before using this medicine in combination with anything else, regardless if it's an over the counter medicine or a prescription one.
Missed doses
You should not see any problems from missing a dose from this medicine, as it's a sleeping pill. Just make sure you time your intake appropriately and only take the drug when you're sure you'll be sleeping for at least 7-8 hours.
Storage
Keep the medicine in a cool, dry place, away from sunlight and moisture. Keep it out of reach for children and pets.
Final notes
This medicine will cause sleepiness and drowsiness. Do not operate heavy machinery or drive a vehicle after using it. The medicine will have some minor effects on you the following day. Do not drink excessive amounts of alcohol while using it. This information is not meant to replace an actual doctor's opinion.
