This medication is commonly used to treat disorders such as seizures, insomnia, and anxiety. It works by altering the brain's balance of certain chemicals which affect these factors in a human's health. The drug can also be used to relieve tension, nervousness, and anxiety disorders. It can also be used to treat various other medical conditions, which your doctor can outline for you.
Precautions
This drug can alter your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery - use it responsibly. It may induce drowsiness and dizziness in you. Alcohol may make these effects stronger, so you should avoid drinking large quantities of it while you're using the medication.
Alcohol will also increase your risk of having a seizure, which will set you back in your treatment if you're targeting a seizure condition.
The drug is known to cause a habit. If used for prolonged periods of time, it may be hard to stop using it. If you find any physical side effects while trying to stop the medication after a long period of use, try to decrease your dosage gradually until you're comfortable with it.
Instructions
Lorazepam may have a negative effect on you if you have narrow-angle glaucoma, so avoid treating yourself with this drug if you suffer from this condition. Inform your doctor of any diseases you have before using Lorazepam, paying special attention to kidney and liver diseases, asthma, bronchitis, and emphysema. Any of those conditions may warrant a discontinuation of your treatment, or simply a dosage adjustment - it's different between patients.
The medication is known to harm unborn babies - avoid using it if you're a woman in pregnancy. It can also pass into breastmilk, so women who're breastfeeding should stay away from it for the same reasons. Individuals over the age of 65 are more sensitive to the drug's side effects, and your doctor may prescribe decreased dosages in that case.
Extra notes
The instructions provided by your doctor should be carefully adhered to. Take the medicine exactly as prescribed. If you fail to understand anything from the prescription, ask a professional physicist. Take the medication with a glass of water.
The drug may also be administered through an injection. If you're doing this at home, your doctor should provide you with instructions on how to prepare, store, and execute the injection properly. You should be careful with the dosage and not take more than is prescribed for you.
Side effects
This drug is known to cause some minor side effects, such as drowsiness and irritation. They should go away quickly, but if they don't, consult your doctor shortly.
Missed doses
If you miss a dose, take the next one as soon as you remember. Check the time beforehand, and if it's almost time for another dose, do not take it and just skip it instead. Do not compensate for missed doses by taking extra, this will not benefit your health and just harm you.
Overdose
If you suspect an overdose, contact your local poison control center. Symptoms of an overdose include rashes, swelling, and redness of the skin.
