Common  Uses

Tramadol is familiar to most people by its names Tranzex, Tramatas, Aurotrama, and Tramol-SR, and it's a painkiller used to treat moderate to severe pain conditions. Tramadol is also traditionally used to treat pain induced by surgery, traumas, or permanent illnesses, such as cancer or joint pain.

Tramadol achieves its effect by interfering with the brain's pain perception, numbing it down to a level where it stops being bothersome to the users. Additionally, the medication decreases the magnitude of individual pain signals as they travel between nerves. The drug has other uses as well, which a doctor can best cover for you.

Precautions

Tramadol is in the form of tablets for oral consumption. You should take it about 4-6 hours, according to how often your pain manifests itself. It doesn't matter whether or not you eat with it, it will not affect the drug's effects. Make sure you follow the prescription carefully. Do not fiddle with the dosage without a doctor's advice, and especially do not take more than what you've been prescribed. The drug can be addictive, so use it reasonably.

Warnings

You need to consult a doctor before using Tramadol, in order to determine your overall health status. Kidney and liver-related diseases are especially important, so make sure you mention them in the conversation. Also, if you're predisposed to addictions, this needs to be noted as well, as the drug can unlock those predispositions.

Tramadol's effects on unborn babies have not been tested, so women in pregnancy are advised against using the drug. Same goes for breastfeeding, as it is not currently known whether the drug passes into a woman's breast milk, and thus affects the baby at all. Individuals over the age of 75 are more prone to experiencing Tramadol side effects, so additional dosage adjustments may be required in those cases. Such people should never take more than 300mg of the drug daily.

Children under the age of 16 are prohibited from using the drug.

Missed doses

If you miss a dose, just take it whenever you remember about it. Pay attention though, if it's almost time for your next one, just skip it and proceed with the next dose. Never take extra amounts of the medicine in attempts to compensate for missed doses.

Side effects

Side effects from Tramadol are not commonly reported, but still possible. The most common area of affection is the central nervous system, through conditions such as headaches, dizziness, speech disorders, blurred vision, upset stomach, diarrhea. Some more serious symptoms can include an increased heartbeat, swelling, redness, difficulty breathing, frequent urination, and seizures - if you experience any of those, contacting a doctor as soon as possible is strongly advised.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
