Levitra
Common applications
Levitra is a medication for treating erectile dysfunction and associated problems. Erectile dysfunction refers to the condition where a man is unable to attain or sustain an erection. There are various solution for this problem, and drugs like Levitra are just one of them.
A doctor can recommend the best course of treatment for you, but it will usually involve at least one medication of this type. Levitra works by increasing the blood flow to the penis, resulting in a stable erection lasting for the entire duration of the sexual activity. Once it has been completed, blood flow is restored to its normal state so the erection can recede.
Instructions
Levitra is provided in 20mg tablets meant for oral consumption. The most commonly prescribed dosage is 10mg about half an hour to one hour before the intercourse. The dosage may vary based on the patient's health condition - the maximum should not go over 20mg though. Also, in order to achieve at least some result, the minimum dosage should remain at least 5mg.
You should not take the medication more than once daily, as it can have adverse results on your health. Also, Levitra will not give you an erection on its own - you'll need to be sexually stimulated like usual in order for that to happen. Food is unimportant, and you can take the medication with or without eating.
Individuals over the age of 65 should start with the minimum dosage of 5mg, and they should not exceed a maximum dosage of 10mg for safety reasons. Patients who're currently using some specific CYP3A4 inhibitors like ketoconazole, itraconazole, ritonavir, indinavir and erythromycin, should decrease their dosage slightly.
Warnings
If your doctor has recommended that you refrain from sexual activities because of problems related to your heart, any treatment for erectile dysfunction is bound to have negative effects on you, and you should not attempt it. Drugs containing nitrates can interfere with Levitra very severely, so you should avoid using it if you're under the influence of such drugs.
Nitrates are commonly found in medications for treating angina, as well as some recreational sexual drugs (commonly called "poppers"). Drugs containing alpha blockers can also become dangerous when used with Levitra, and may lead to loss of consciousness.
Patients born with physical deformations of the penis should be careful when dealing with erectile dysfunction, as well as those predisposed to allergic reactions to some of the ingredients found in Levitra. Levitra has not been tested in combination with other similar drugs. The results produced from such treatment are completely unpredictable and thus such actions are advised against.
Levitra is not a replacement for STD protection. Use a condom and other forms of protection as normally, as Levitra will have no effect on that aspect of your sexual experience. Make sure you inform your doctor of absolutely all medical conditions you currently have or have had in the past, especially those related to the heart and livers/kidneys.
Bleeding and problems with the blood in general are also important and should not be left out. Make sure you mention any medications you're taking as well.
Side effects
Common side effects associated with Levitra use include headache, dizziness, loss of appetite, indigestion, and runny nose. They should all go away in a few hours after the effects of the drug have passed - if they don't, make sure you contact your doctor immediately.
Some rarer side effects include unusually long erections - some patients have reported erections which don't go away for more than four hours. Seek medical attention immediately if you experience anything similar.
Overdose
If you suspect you may have overdosed on Levitra, contact your local emergency ward immediately. The effects of a Levitra overdose have not been extensively studied.
Final notes
Keep Levitra in a dry, cool place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Make sure it's out of reach for children and pets. Do not substitute the above information for a real medical evaluation - consult a doctor before using Levitra or any similar drugs.
